- It was not only my artistic aspirations but also ecological considerations
that led me to adopt the technique of paper - pulp that I have been
using for the last two years.
- The material of which my paintings are made is completely environmentally
friendly.
- The process of preparing the material is both difficult and long
- lasting. (It takes about one month.)
- Paper is soaked in water, made into pulp, strained and mixed with
various other substances like clove - oil (to protect it from harmful
insects), glues etc.
- Then it is kneaded by hand for at least one hour and laid on special
frames.
- Now the real work starts. With the help of a palette - knife I start
Forming the patterns, adding material as I go, until the whole painting
has obtained its relief.
- When the painting has dried, I sand paper it, and then paint it
using water - colors, paints of the kind used for painting icons,
or I gild it.
- Afterwards, as a Finishing touch I add various items such as tiles,
pieces of wood and metal so that the painting acquires its final three
- dimensional form.
- Finally I coat it with a protective layer against humidity.
- In the museums of Europe there are many works of art over 300 years
old, made with the technique of paper - pulp.
